UAV
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), commonly known as a drone, as an unmanned aircraft system (UAS), and also referred by several other names, is an aircraft without a human pilot aboard. The flight of UAVs may be controlled with various kinds of autonomy : either by a given degree of remote control from an operator, located on the ground or in another vehicle, or fully autonomously, by on board computers.
UAVs are often preferred for missions that are too "dull, dirty or dangerous" for manned aircraft. They have and are mostly found in military and special operation applications. Though, UAVs are increasingly finding uses in civil and recreational applications, such as policing and surveillance, aerial filming, and drone racing.
UAV Model Drone
In 1849 Austria sent unmanned, bombfilled balloons to attack Venice. Drone innovations started in the early 1900s and originally focused on providing practice targets for training military personnel. UAV development continued during World War I, when the DaytonWright Airplane Company invented a pilotless aerial torpedo that would drop and explode at a preset time. The earliest attempt at a powered unmanned aerial vehicle was A. M. Low's "Aerial Target" of 1916. Nikola Tesla described a fleet of unmanned aerial combat vehicles in 1915.
UAVs typically fall into one of six functional categories (although multi-role air-frame platforms are becoming more prevalent):
· Target and decoy –providing ground and aerial gunnery a target that simulates an enemy aircraft or missile
· Reconnaissance – providing battlefield intelligence
· Combat – providing attack capability for high-risk missions
· Logistics – UAVs specifically designed for cargo and logistics operation
· Research and development –used to further develop UAV technologies to be integrated into field-deployed UAV aircraft
· Civil and commercial UAVs – specifically designed for civil and commercial applications
